About the Project
Future Energy Limited (the Developer) is proposing a solar farm and battery storage facility on land south of the Llanwern Steelworks, near Newport. The site offers strong transport links and is part of a wider effort to repurpose industrial land for renewable energy.
The project would deliver approximately 380 megawatts (MW) of installed capacity – enough to power approximately 108,000 homes, equivalent to the combined household demand of Newport and Monmouthshire, or around 8% of Wales’s households.
As a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP), the scheme requires a Development Consent Order (DCO) from the Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero.
